Information
After School Care
Is run in the School Hall after school only. Further information can be obtained by telephoning 0274 823 138. Leave a message and contact telephone number. Enrolment Forms for After School Care are also available from the office or on this website in the Forms section. Only children enrolled for After School Care may attend.
Attendance
Regular attendance is expected from all children and is also a legal requirement. If your child is going to be absent please notify the school office on 232 6509 before 9.00 a.m. on the first day of absence and then each day until their return to school (if you are not sure of the length of absence). This is to ensure the safety of your child.
If you do not have access to a telephone, a note could be sent with a sibling or neighbour’s child. All latecomers must report to the office so their status can be changed on the absence register. If you know your child will be late a call would also be appreciated
Civil Defence
In the event of a major emergency e.g. earthquake, your child will be cared for at the school until such time as they are collected by either Parents or nominated caregivers. At the beginning of each year when purchasing bulk stationery we ask all parents to contribute $2.00 towards updating our civil defence food. We use this money to buy fresh supplies of canned food, water, sweets, etc to help feed any children that may for whatever reason have to remain in our care. A new supply of food is purchased in the Christmas holiday period. In the last term of Term 4, a draw of the current years food is made between all families that have contributed. Each year, four lucky families receive large boxes of goodies in time for the holiday break. We appreciate parental support to make this system run smoothly.
Clothing
Clothing must be named. Lost clothing is held for three weeks and is then disposed of in the recycling bins. Named clothing is retained and returned to students. The school takes no responsibility for unnamed items. Suitable shoes must be worn to school. Daily Physical Education is practised and children cannot participate safely in jandals, gumboots, slip on shoes etc. These are also not suitable for safe play on the playground equipment. As our school is a thoroughfare for the public, on occasion we have had broken bottles found in the playground. Students are expected to wear shoes at all times outside of the classroom.
Medication
If your child requires medication to be administered at school, it is necessary for it to be brought to the school office with a written, signed note from parents authorising the administering of this medication. The note must be dated and cover the dates the child is to take the medication and the name of the medication. Should a child be on long-term medication, it is necessary for a form to be completed at the office. Please note it is the child’s responsibility to report to the school office to take the medication.
Messages to Students
It would be appreciated if parents would avoid ringing the school to pass on non-urgent messages to individual students. With up to 200 students in the school, this can become a time consuming exercise. Wherever possible we would ask that arrangements regarding collection of children etc be discussed with children prior to the school day commencing.
Money/Trips/Events
From time to time, money is requested for trips, shows etc. Please put money in separate envelopes clearly labelled with the Child’s Name, Room Number, amount enclosed and the purpose for which the money is sent. Any money or return slips are to be dropped in the ASB Drop Box in the Administration Block. On occasions there are several requests for money at the same time, e.g. shows, performers, special lunches etc, and parents have written one cheque for the lot. This often makes things very difficult for office staff as not all money goes to the same account. For example, the Fundraising Committee accounts for fundraising; and different events may be actioned by different staff members. If several items are included on one cheque, this may necessitate the banking of that cheque and then either cheques or cash being passed to the relevant parties. It would be appreciated if this was not done in the future. lf trips require completed permission forms, these and payment (if requested) must be returned by 9 a.m. on the date shown on the notice. This date is the last possible date for acceptance. Class lists, parent helpers and transport details etc cannot be finalised until we have received payments/permission. On occasion children have missed out through not having permission/payment returned by the due date. Should you know your child will not be attending a particular event, e.g. you know they will be absent on the day, please return your permission slip with a note to this effect or advise the office. Thank you.
